Rudyard Lake Steam Railway

If the name ‘Rudyard’ reminds of you Rudyard Kipling, it’s because he had been born there (or conceived?) Rudyard Lake is a beautiful lake and has a miniature steam railway running along the side of it.

I had designed and illustrated the logo and train as well as the whole leaflet. The leaflet is folded into 3 with front and back (with the front of the folded leaflet showing the front of the train with the logo). The owner had remarked that the colours yellow and black were correct for the era of steam railways.

As with all my projects, identifying what the client wishes and what are the main attraction for end-users is of utmost importance in making any good design, the design process and production is a matter of follow-through.

I have fond memories of Rudyard Lake – my friends and I had often visited this place at the weekends. The lake is beautiful and really does look like ‘The Lady of the Lake’ painting (minus the Lady!). I had loved rowing on the wooden boats, sadly, these had been replaced by cheaper boats. A traditional wooden rowing boat is much heavier but it sits and cuts fantastically through the water. If anyone out there knows of other beautiful lakes with traditional wooden rowing boats, please let me know!
